Beyond Facebook and Twitter, there is a massive pool of online marketing resource at your fingertips – a lot of which is barely touched by PTs at the minute. Plus, those already ‘onto’ the tools that can leverage more business, are not necessarily using them all correctly.

Just like an untrained deadlift technique can lead to long-term spinal damage, a rushed approach to web advertising can be devastating to your success.

A Healthy Website

You can get your own website in minutes. Just use the free WordPress platform to learn the ropes – you can always advance to a more complex (paid) set up once you’re familiar with the basics.

Think of a fresh website like a new client who has never worked out before; you have an opportunity to build it up from scratch:

Establish what you want your website to be recognised for, e.g. ‘personal trainers Leeds’

With this in mind, write a nice homepage for your site that clearly indicates to the reader that you are a personal trainer in Leeds – if possible, use the actual phrase ‘personal trainer in Leeds’ within your content a couple of times

Create a blog section on your site – it’s here where you can build a following, provide training advice and prove that you really know your stuff

If you’re not sure how to go about all this or want to know how to create a more complex website, look into a course from the Health and Fitness Education (HFE) – one that includes a business skills module. The PTs on the programme tend to work together, helping each other in areas like this – outside the physical aspect of the profession.

The Most Important Social Network

As the brainchild of the biggest search engine in the world, Google+ destined to become the most important social media platform (it arguably already is).

For starters, there are ways to link your G+ profile to your WordPress site, so that your photo shows up on the search engine like so:

This is proven to attract more internet users than just another blue title on a page of 10 blue titles. Your face or logo will become more recognisable, clickable and, as a result, profitable.

Stacked on top of that, you’re using the most sophisticated social network to engage with your clients or prospective clients. The more active you become, the bigger following you create – Google will acknowledge all of this behaviour and soon see you as an authority in personal training – potentially lifting your website up to page one when people search for ‘personal trainer in Leeds’ etc.

Google+ has much more about it and if you want to know everything, the best way to do it is get involved. Review this G+ guide to find your way around the different features.

Edging Ahead of the Competition

You need to talk to your followers, show them you’re a real person and that you have all the answers to their training questions.

Now, this could mean you have to give valuable advice away for free but such an honest demonstration of knowledge will only work in your favour. People always want to know more and in this line of work, you’re in a unique position to:

Advise people on what to do

Show them how to do it in a video/image/numbered guide

Insist they work with a personal trainer for the best results and to reduce risk

If you like, you could see this post an example of ‘free education’. There’s some actionable pointers in this piece and just by reading, you’re already upping your business game – you could start making moves on this front right now.

Still, if you want to learn from the best business-minded PTs in the country, you need to sign up to a HFE personal trainer course and push yourself in every module.

Hi folks,

I came across quite an inspiring story while on Twitter a few weeks ago and I’d like to share it with you today. Meet Graham Smith, he’s from Whickham in the North East of England and he loves running. He recently became a running coach through the help of a local charity called The Tony Blair Sports Foundation(TBSF). If you’d like more information on this foundation just click the bold red copy you’ve just read. Graham now wants to help TBSF raise more funds so they can increase the number of sports coaches in the North East. This will result in getting more kids active and them having a healthier and happier life. So Graham’s challenge is to run 2012 miles in the year 2012 and raise £2012 for the TBSF. One word, amazing.

The tweet I read a few weeks ago was about a 24 hour treadmill challenge in Durham. I thought to myself, I live in Durham! So a couple of tweets later and I’ve booked a running slot for Friday the 1st of June at 18:30pm until 19:00pm. The challenge takes place at Northumbrian Water at Pity Me, Durham and will run from 10:00am on Friday the 1st of June until 10:00am on Saturday the 2nd of June. I urge everyone to get in touch in Graham and show your support. Even if you only have a spare half hour in your lunch break like me, get yourself along and help out. If you can’t make it, please re-tweet and like this page to help spread the word. Thank-you.

When I agreed to help with this website, the main objective was to help others. Read the statement at the top of this page, Everything about fitness training and exercise tips. Eat right and live healthy with 4Ever Fitness. That statement is correct and the articles we write are there to help others. I guess Graham and I have something in common and that’s why I was keen to help spread the word about his story.

If you’d like to know more about Graham’s story, you can follow his blog at: http://2012milesin2012graham.wordpress.com or via Twitter @whickhamrunning. If you’d like to support Graham by making a donation, please visit his JustGiving page here: www.justgiving.com/graham-smith19.

To quote Tesco, every little helps and it really does. Thanks for reading,

Australian actor Russell Crowe has been following a hardcore fitness regime to get back into peak condition. He’s just made his first red carpet appearance since his weight-loss campaign began and he certainly looks like he has his physique back.

Keen to share his secrets, Russell is constantly tweeting about his training progress. It’s been about six months, I know this because I left my job round about that time to start up my own design agency. I personally follow Russell on Twitter and although he doesn’t know this, he’s been motivation me to go in the gym at times. I’d often be sat on my backside and read a tweet from Russell saying he’s rode so many miles and I’d immediately go upstairs and put my gym gear on. If you’d like to follow Russell on Twitter, you can do so over @russellcrowe.

I’ve researched on the internet what training routines Russell has done and combined with his tweets, I’ve a pretty good idea of how he’s managed to get back into shape. I read somewhere that he was on a gluten-free diet so I tweeted him asking if this was true. He replied to say yes he was. I was pleased he had taken the time out to tweet back as he has loads of followers. We’ll be doing some articles soon on gluten-free diets and how they can benefit your training so stay tuned.

Russell has openly said he loves his food and drink so he must have been very disciplined during his latest bout of training. Reading his tweets over the past few months, he’s certainly putting in the hard work and the results are simply brilliant. I know when you’re an actor you are required to bulk up and slim down for certain roles but at this stage in his life, I hope he stays at the later. Russell looks about ten years younger now and he should feel like it too.

I live in Durham, in the UK. Russell visited our town last year but unfortunately I couldn’t go because of work commitments. It’s nice to hear he thought our town was ‘gorgeous’ and why Russell was here. He’d made a promise to Bill Bryson to come to Durham and talk to members of the Durham Student Theatre. Hopefully next time he visits Durham, I can be there flying a 4Ever Fitness flag.

Thanks for reading,
